USF Engineering Expo

USF's Engineering EXPO seeks to educate K-12 students on the importance of math, science, engineering and technology within their lives. Engineering EXPO is a free event and a unique opportunity to meet and talk with Tampa Bay's local engineers and engineering student organizations at USF. EXPO features hands on exhibits and shows that help encourage more students to pursue fields in science and mathematics.

This is a free event where all ages are welcome to the University of South Florida in Tampa to enjoy interactive, educational shows and hands-on exhibits. There is also an opportunity to fulfill Sunshine State Standards and even finish a Scout Badge Achievement.

Bubbles, Booms & Bond Breaking

  • Ping Pong Explosion

Rapidly expanding liquid nitrogen trapped inside a sealed plastic bottle shatters and propels hundreds of ping pong balls high into the air.

  • Slime & Ooblek

Everyday ingredients are mixed to create gooey slime and oobleck—a liquid that turns solid when squeezed.

  • Dry Ice Bubbles

Solid dry ice turns into cold gas in soapy water, creating giant bubbles that burst into clouds of white fog.

  • Liquid Nitrogen Freezing

Super-cold liquid nitrogen instantly freezes items like flowers or fruit so solid they shatter like glass.

  • Fire Bubbles

Gas-filled soap bubbles are held in wet hands and lit, producing a sudden, safe flash of flame.

  • Flaming Gummy Bear

Dropping a gummy bear into a hot chemical mix triggers a rapid reaction that makes the candy violently burn and hiss.

  • Piff the Magic Dragon

    Piff the Magic Dragon

Fine powder is blown through a flame to create a bright, dragon-like burst of fire in mid-air.
